Part of effective leadership is giving your staff the tools and the guidance they need to succeed in their roles. The goal of including time management tips in your training procedures is to ensure certain levels of productivity and a happier work environment as a consequence. Below are some lessons to pass on to them.

Do:

Prioritize workflow.

To provide the most effective leadership, keep everyone on the same page by making sure all employees know the priorities of the business, the department, and the team. At the beginning of each workday, encourage them to make a list of everything that needs to get done. Then, they should review the list carefully for what is most time-sensitive.

Set goals.

No matter how big or how small, setting goals creates motivation to reach them. Encourage your staff to pick milestones for each workday, as well as for the month, quarter, and year. This way, they can see how they need to budget their time and have a means of marking their progress.

Don't:

Overwhelm.

effective leadershipNo employee, no matter how dedicated, can do it all. Nor should they. There are naturally going to be some items on those daily to-do lists they don’t accomplish, so give them the ability to pick up the task tomorrow so they can maintain a positive work-life balance. This will help them feel more appreciated at the company and reduce the risk of employee turnover. Also, consider scheduling regular breaks and team events; offer incentives to keep morale high.

Be disorganized.

A clean, well-organized workspace supports better time management. Precious minutes and hours can be wasted looking for lost paperwork or equipment, and an entire day's schedule will then be thrown off course. Set cleanliness and organizational standards for the office, and the whole team wins.
